Frequently Asked Questions
I'm new here. How do I get started?
We’re stoked that you’re interested in bouldering! Here’s the 411: When you arrive, you’ll need to sign a waiver. (You can also sign the waiver ahead of time.) Join for a day ($15), a month, or a year. Rent some shoes ($3), grab a chalk bag ($2), and you’re ready to go! A kind, friendly, non-intimidating staff member will show you the ropes. Just kidding. There are no ropes.
We also suggest taking our Intro to Bouldering class. It's free for members or included with your $15 day pass. The class runs every Monday evening from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m.
Important reminder: You must be 18+ years of age to sign the waiver and enter the facility. If you're under 18, please bring along a parent or guardian.
Do you have rope climbing?
We have zero ropes. Zip. Nada. That’s how much we love bouldering. If you’re skeptical, we encourage you to give it a try! We think you’ll be hooked. Like rope climbing, bouldering is challenging, fun, and socially engaging—only you don’t need a belay partner.
Is bouldering dangerous?
Yes. There's no way around it—bouldering is a dangerous sport. That’s why we teach and emphasize bouldering safety. On your first visit, we'll show you a few safety techniques. From there, you can always holler with questions or concerns. Again, bouldering is dangerous, but knowing the rules and watching your surroundings will make it much, much safer.
Bouldering is rock climbing without ropes! When you come to Terra Firma, you won't find any ropes or harnesses but you will find some of the comfiest, cushiest padding on the planet to catch your falls. All you need to bring is yourself!
What should I wear?
Think athleisure. Wear an outfit you’d wear to the gym—something light and comfortable. As for your feet, we have climbing shoes you can rent, but if you feel more comfortable in your gym shoes or person climbing shoes, all the power to you!
I heard you have a co-working space?
You heard right! Members can work in our space and climb whenever inspiration strikes. We offer tables, couches, and free Wi-Fi. We want to promote a strong, local community and our co-working space is a big part of achieving that goal.
...but can you teach me how to rope climb?
Again, no ropes here (#sorrynotsorry), but on rare occasions, we’ll host workshops on rope climbing. Be sure to check our schedule periodically. We’ll cover general rope safety, lead climbing, multi-pitch climbing, and other fun skills (like backpacking). We'll also post group climbing trips and guided climbing/bouldering trips.
What if hunger strikes?
Bouldering can build up an appetite, but there’s no need to be hangry. Our snack and coffee bar is stocked and ready to fuel you up. You can also bring your own snacks or get food delivered, so you never need to leave!
